Gay White Men & Psychological Well-Being Study seeks research participants
|
|
|
Dear LGBTQ Ally, My name is Gregory Payton, and I am a
doctoral student inpsychology at your uptown neighbor
institution Columbia University, where the study has gone
through the appropriate Internal Review Board approval. I
am collecting data for my dissertation and hope that you will
help!
As you know, LGBTQ individuals must cope with numerous
stressors that result from homophobia?from reactions of
family,
friends and their community to more systemic factors such
as
heterosexist legal codes and employment practices. These
stressors take a toll on the psychological well-being and
functioning of LGBTQ individuals, leading to disproportionate
rates of anxiety,
depression and other harmful outcomes.
As a gay man and queer ally who wishes to improve the lives
of LGBTQ individuals, I?m asking for your help! The following
web
address is a link to my web-survey and data collection tool.
I
would greatly appreciate it if you would forward this
invitation
and link to your campus listserv or group, LGBTQ directory,
or
other individuals who may wish to participate. Please note
that
the study is specifically recruiting Gay, White Men.
Let me assure you that this is only one study in a series of
studies that are specific to certain populations. Each study
uses specific survey instruments that have been normed on
specific gender and racial/ethnic groups, so participants must
be selected for these demographics. Subsequent studies will
examine the very same research questions utilizing gender
and race-specific instruments with other groups.
You are invited to participate in an online study about gay
men's mental health. If you are a White, self-identified gay
male
over the age of 18 who is not currently hospitalized for
psychiatric
care, please click on the following link or cut and paste it into
your web browser. The link will direct you to a description of
the
study and ask for your consent to participate. If, after
reading
through the research description and participants' rights you
would
like to voluntarily participate, you may click on the "I agree"
icon
and continue with the confidential web survey at:
