Clothesline Project
|
|
|
Monday, April 16, 2pm - 4pm
What: T-shirt making workshop offers survivors,
friends, family members, and their supporters the
opportunity to express themselves artistically and
have a voice surrounding issues of sexual assault.
This project is very inclusive of the LGBT community,
and is open to LGB individuals, straight allies, men,
women and transgender individuals
The Clothesline Project is part of an international
effort to educate people about the personal impact of
sexual violence. It offers children, men, women,
transgender individuals and their supporters, an
opportunity to have a voice surrounding issues of
sexual abuse and assault. They can express
themselves through artwork displayed on t-shirts. It
provides an opportunity to bear witness to their
personal experience of violence, and celebrate their
transformation from victim to survivor in a powerful
statement of solidarity. For many survivors, breaking
the silence is an important part of the healing
process. The Clothesline Project offers that
opportunity.
Where: LGBT Resource Center, 750 Ostrom
Avenue, Wednesday, April 18, 7pm: Take Back the
Night March, Rally, & Speak Out. Become part of the
solution and bring an end to sexual violence. It's your
chance to break the silence. Help us take back the
night!

Take Back the Night
|
|
|
April 18th, Kickoff: Steps of Hendricks Chapel.
Take Back the night is an international event that
started in England in 1877 as a protest against the
fear women encountered walking the streets at night.
In 1978 the first Take Back the Night march in the
United States was held in San Francisco to protest
violence against women. Since then, Take Back the
Night has spread across borders and oceans,
cultures and languages, cities and towns, increasing
community awareness and educating millions about
the issues of violence against women, as well as
urging each and every one of us to take a stand
against all types of violence.
