The Denny's racism/bias incident at Syracuse University has its 10th Year Remembrance, Wednesday, April 11th, 2pm on the SU Quad
|
|
|
Ten years ago a group of seven SU students
were victims of a vicious beating outside a Denny's
Restaurant. The Denny's Incident of April 11, 1997
created uproar on the Syracuse University campus.
In light of the event, student organizations rallied
together to in protesting Denny's Restaurant and
hate-crimes. Since the case of Lizardo V. Denny's Inc
was dismissed at the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of
Appeals, there was no justice served for the 7 victims.
Since then the incident was forgotten.
In the spirit of commemorating the 10th Anniversary,
Denny's Incident: 10th year Remembrance
Committee was created. This group of seven
students and various supporters are working to
educate students and the community of issues
involving racism/bias.
