Doctoral Student Seeks Research Volunteers

Calling all parents of LGB
Children
Kristopher Goodrich is
conducting doctoral research with the Counseling
and Human Services Department. He is interested in
talking with parents of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual
children who have had success since their
childrens disclosure.
If you know of anyone who is
interested in being a part of Kris' story please
contact Kris at kmgoodri@syr.edu
or 315-727-2968. For more information please see
the complete letter of request below.
Hello, my name is Kristopher
Goodrich and I am a doctoral student in Syracuse
University's Counseling & Human Services
Department. I am currently working on a project
for my graduate degree in which I am exploring the
experiences of heterosexual parents of lesbian,
gay or bisexual (LGB) children.
For my research project, I am
interested in individuals who have successfully
integrated their experiences since their child's
disclosure. Participants would be heterosexual
mothers or fathers of lesbian, gay or bisexual
children who have had a successful experience
since their child disclosed to them that they were
LGB.
If you are interested in
participating in the study, or know of a person
who you think would be a good participant for this
project, I would ask to sit down for an interview
of about 1 hour. All information shared would be
kept confidential and would be destroyed at the
completion of the research project. In any
articles I write or any presentations that I make,
I will use a made-up name for the participants,
and I will not reveal details (or I will change
details) about where people live or work.
I very much appreciate your
taking out the time to read this message. I look
forward to hearing from you and further discussing
the possibility of your participation in this
project.

public service announcement that recently won a
bronze award -- the second-highest award given --
at the 28th annual Telly Awards, an international
competition honoring outstanding local, regional
and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as
video and film productions. The public service ad,
"Check Yourself," promotes HIV awareness among
young African Americans; the key message is that
that no one is immune from HIV. "Check Yourself"
was produced by Motivational Educational
Entertainment Productions Inc. of Philadelphia and
was created as part of Project iMPPACS, an
intervention study led by Syracuse University in
collaboration with a consortium of academic
institutions. "Check Yourself" was selected for
