Campus Pride Announces Dates for Gay-
Friendly College Admission Fairs this Fall &
Spring
Do you want to find a
gay-friendly campus? The search has now become a
lot easier. Campus Pride just announced dates for
two national college admission fairs this Fall
2007 and Spring 2008 specifically designed for out
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)
students to find LGBT-friendly colleges and
universities.
The Fall 2007 fair will be on
Saturday, December 1 hosted on the campus of the
University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.
And, the Spring 2008 fair will be on Friday, April
11 hosted on the campus of the University of
California, San Diego. Free and open to the
public, the fairs allow any student and their
family the opportunity to interact with colleges
and universities that value LGBT and ally people.
Registration is open to any college or university
across the United States. Each fair will also
feature expert advice about LGBT-friendly
colleges, scholarship resources and even effective
tips for campus visits.
"High school students and
their families want to attend campuses that are a
welcoming and safe place to learn, live and grow.
The same is true of LGBT students who are often
overlooked in the recruitment process," stated
Shane Windmeyer, Executive Director of Campus
Pride and author of The Advocate College Guide for
LGBT Students. "The LGBT-friendly college
admission fair showcases campuses who are LGBT-
friendly and who want LGBT & ally students. It
sends a clear message: "Gay students are welcome,
even celebrated on this campus.'"
According to Campus Pride,
that's the growing message coming from colleges
and universities who want their campus community
to reflect the diversity of out LGBT and ally
students graduating from high schools today. It
also represents the fact that colleges and
universities are searching for ways to increase
enrollment with this seemingly "untapped"
population.
Campus Pride is well aware of
this phenomenon and has developed the fairs as an
active measure for campuses to be out and proud in
attracting LGBT student populations. The fairs are
also being held in coordination with the
LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index
(www.campusclimateindex.org ), the only online
resource of its kind that assists colleges and
universities in learning ways to improve their
LGBT campus life.
"The LGBT-Friendly Campus
Climate Index demonstrates how colleges are
'coming out' to provide programs and services for
LGBT and ally students. The idea that LGBT student
populations are a part of the campus recruitment
and retention efforts is just another part of this
changing dynamic," stated Windmeyer.
To learn more details about
the upcoming Campus Pride College Admission Fairs
or how to register your campus before the 30 day
prior deadline, please visit Campus Pride
(www.campuspride.org) or contact the organization
at info@campuspride.org or 704-277- 6710.
