The LGBT Resource Center is pleased to announce that the Seventh Annual Syracuse University Rainbow Banquet will be held at Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel in the Regency Ballroom on Thursday, April 23, 2009 with a reception beginning at 5:15 p.m. and a buffet dinner to follow at 6:00 p.m. The theme of 2009 Syracuse University Rainbow Banquet, "Bring All of Your Dreams", is a tribute to poets and creative writers past and present who hold our dreams and inspire us to act. The theme is based on the great African-American poet Langston Hughes' poem "The Dream Keeper".

Bring me all of your dreams,
You dreamer,
Bring me all your
Heart melodies
That I may wrap them
In a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too-rough fingers
Of the world.

While we come together for this celebratory event, we acknowledge the interconnection of freedom struggles and the need for shared solidarity in fulfilling the dreams of social equality, economic justice, and the possibilities of love. We move forward to meet the challenge of dreams that are still deferred for many people. Renowned poet Minnie Bruce Pratt, professor in the Writing Program and in Women's and Gender Studies, along with several students will read from their work or from the writings of others who inspire them.

As is tradition, the Rainbow Banquet will celebrate the accomplishments of the 2009 LGBTQA graduates of Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF as a new generation of Dream Keepers, and will honor the recipients of the Foundation Award who have carried the "Rainbow Dream" in their hearts and actions. We hope that you will be able to join us for this special night of celebration and reflection.

Faculty & Staff: Individual tickets for the Rainbow Banquet will cost $30.00 each. We invite departments to purchase a table for $300 or a half-table for $150. Full tables seat 10. Departments are encouraged to donate a table, or seats from the table, to allow students and community members to attend at no cost or reduced rate. A limited number of tables are available for purchase.

Students: We make every effort for students to attend the Rainbow Banquet at no cost. Pride Union and Open Doors purchase tables for this event and seats for students are also donated by offices and departments on campus. Students should sign up with an LGBT student organization, university office, or contact the LGBT Resource Center for a sponsored seat ASAP.
